Ingredients

Wonton Ingredients

  • 200 g Chicken mince
  • ½ cup Chopped spring onions
  • 20-25 Wonton wrapper(skin)
  • 1 tsp Garlic paste (finely grated)
  • ½ tsp Ginger paste (finely grated)
  • 1 tsp Light soy sauce
  • 1 tsp Sesame oil
  • 1 tsp Sugar
  • ¼ tsp White pepper
  • ½ tsp Salt
  • 2 tsp Corn/potato flour

Chilli Oil Sauce

  • 2 tbsp Light soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp Lime/lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp Water
  • 1 tsp Sugar
  • 1 tbsp Chilli flakes in oil ( Sichuan OR Regular chilli oil ) (see details in note)
  • 1 tbsp Spring onions finely chopped
  • ½ tsp Sesame oil

Instructions

Wontons

  • In a large mixing bowl, add chicken mince, chopped spring onions, finely grated ginger, garlic , seasoning sauce and spices.
  • Mix well to combine all ingredients until the fillings become sticky paste.
  • To wrap the wontons, place wonton wrapper in your palm, add 1 teaspoon of fillings in the middle of the wrapper. Wet the edges of the wonton paper with water. Fold the wonton into triangle shape, press the edges to seal it. Pull the corners of triangle and wet one side and overlap the corners and press hard to seal it.

Chilli Oil Sauce

  • To make the chilli dipping sauce, mix all the chilli sauce ingredients in a small bowl.
  • You can use Sichuan style chilli flakes in oil OR normal chilli flakes in oil in the sauce mixture.

To Serve

  • In a hot boiling water, boil the wontons for 4-5 mins until they are cooked well.
  • Place the wontons in the bowl, topped with chilli oil mixture and chopped spring onions.
  • Delicious spicy wonton in chilli oil is ready! Enjoy!

Notes

  • Sichuan(Szechuan) chilli oil is used in most Sichuan style cuisine and it is flavourful, and has a bit of buzzy numbing sensation.
  • You can buy chilli oil bottles in most Chinese/Oriental grocery stores or supermarket Asian aisles.

  • Can you freeze wontons?
    Yes, you can freeze the extra wontons. Place the wontons in tray, make sure they are not sticking to each other. Once they are completely frozen, pack them in an airtight containers or bags. 
    You don't need to defrost the wontons. You can boil, steam or fry the wontons straight away. 
  • You can add in any soup, you can steam it or fry it and serve with your favourite dipping sauce.
